It was a banner year for high school sports in Stephenville.
Speaking to students at an end of year sports awards assembly, Principal Mike Murrin commented on the year Stephenville High has had in the provincial sport scene.
"We had 18 teams, won 50 awards, 23 coaches. A fantastic year," he said, adding that it couldn't have been done without the many coaches and volunteers who travel with students to places far and wide during competition. He also noted importance of a parent's support in encouraging their children to succeed.
Mr. Murrin told students there is a legacy of excellence in the athletes the high school has produced, and that this year was no exception.
Former Georgian sports reporter Lonnie Young was also presented with his award for coverage of high school sports during the assembly.
After the assembly Mr. Young told the Georgian sports were always his own favourite part of school, so he always tried to do what he could to highlight the local high school athlete's accomplishments.
