The big mystery might have already been solved by the time you read this. But as of right now, various media personalities and political pundits are waving their arms and flapping their gums over Premier Danny Williams' potential decision to attend the Vancouver Olympics.

As most of us already know - even if we didn't want to - the Premier recently underwent an unspecified heart operation at an undisclosed American hospital.

This triggered a seemingly endless public debate about Canada's healthcare system - mainly if those with a certain level of wealth could gain better access healthcare than the average citizen.

What made matters worse was that nobody heard from the Premier or one of his spokespeople before his medical procedure. While he certainly had every right to keep mum, his and the provincial government's lack of forthrightness on the matter caused many to speculate about on his medical condition and whether or not he was in the right for leaving the country for treatment.

The provincial government said he was recovering after having the procedure, but a simple statement from Premier Williams prior to the medical procedure might have quelled most of his critics' rants and the entire incident would have been a non-issue.

But now the debate has been stirred up again - will the Premier attend

the Olympics' Newfoundland and Labrador Day on Feb. 26? Take your sides, folks, the debate is ongoing.

We here at the Georgian think the Premier ought to attend the province's special day at the Olympics. He would certainly provide a boost for the local talent performing, likely with droves of extra people coming out to see both the scheduled entertainers and the would-be special guest.

And if he's seen out and about, even if it's just taking it easy while enjoying the festivities, it would send a clear signal that he's doing well post-operation.

Premier Williams will hopefully be back the province's helm in the near future. And then we can all put his health to the back of our minds and get on with business as usual.
