Western Health announced this afternoon that visitor restrictions are currenty in place on the surgical ward at Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital in Stephenville.
The restrictions are due to a number of patients with an influenza-like illness.
Exceptions may be made in extenuating circumstances for immediate family members, however, they are asked to contact the unit directly before attempting to visit a patient.
The health body asks anyone who has influenza like symptoms – including cough, fever, runny nose, and headache – not to visit any of Western Health’s facilities.
They advise individuals with any of these symptoms should rest at home, drink fluids, practise proper hand washing with water and soap, and if the symptoms persist, contact their physician.
To prevent the spread of infection, they ask the public to wash/ sanitize their hands when entering or leaving any of Western Health's facilities.
