The third annual Candy Cane Lane event to raise money for a charity and help put people in the festive mood is taking place on Maryland Drive and Kentucky Loopin Stephenville on Dec. 15.

Debbie Skeard, chairperson for the event, said while there is no charge for attending the event, any donation is welcome.

Maryland Drive and Kentucky Loop will be closed to vehicle traffic from 6 to 9 p.m. while the event is taking place so that walkers can view the decorated homes.

Those attending can park their vehicles on the lane near the weather station.

Ms. Skeard said each year a different charity is chosen as a beneficiary. The first year of Candy Cane Lane donations went to Stephenville Emergency Food Services, last year funds went to Ronald McDonald House, and this year the money collected will go to the Power of Life.

Santa Claus and an elf will be present on that evening and hot chocolate and candy canes will be given out. There might even be some mummers around and some live music.
