On Monday, Aug. 9, at approximately 12:15 p.m. an employee of a commercial business in the community of Stephenville Crossing reported to Bay St. George RCMP that an assault on a 18-year-old female was occurring on the premises by an older male.
At one point the female was confined to a washroom on the premises as the male stood guard outside the door. She managed to get staff to call police and the male fled.
It is alleged by the victim that previous to being at this commercial location she was held hostage locally and assaulted by the older male with his hands and a weapon. She was told she could be killed if she didn't abide by the demands given to her.
She was threatened with possible death if she did not do as the male suggested.
Police found and arrested this 34-year-old male at approximately 7:00 p.m. at a temporary residence in Flat Bay brook and held him in custody for court today. He was on probation at the time of the offences.
He is charged with Forcible Confinement, Assault, Assault with a Weapon, Breach of Probation, Uttering threats to cause bodily harm or death.
The matters are still being analyzed and more interviews are being conducted by RCMP.
