The Bay St. George RCMP say they arrested a 57-year-old Gallants resident on June 20, after family reports of firing off a shotgun in public and acting very strangely in public places.
RCMP say the individual was shouting making strange utterances that were seemingly nonsense, and as there appeared to be a public safety concern, they attended and arrested the adult male without incident.
He was taken into custody and appeared in court. Police say his actions in court resulted in an assessment at the Waterford hospital being ordered. The judge ordered officials to remove the accused from the court immediately at one point.
He is to appear in Stephenville court on July 5. Police continue to investigate the matter by interviewing witnesses.
