Dressed in red and sporting yellow ribbons and balloons, more than a hundred people participated in Stephenville's first Red Friday Walk on June 4.
The walk was led by Julie and Paul Power, whose son Jeremy is stationed in Afghanistan with the Canadian Air Force.
"The importance of the walk was to show support for troops currently deployed - and their families and friends who are here in the area," said Ms. Power.
She added walk was also a way to show local residents how many people are affected by those deployed overseas by the military.
"We'd like to another walk some time in the future," noted Ms. Power, "maybe later in the summer."
The Red Friday Walk was hosted by the Military Family Services Outreach program. After the walk, participants gathered for a social and refreshments at Stephenville Armouries.
Wearing red clothing and displaying yellow ribbons and balloons have been adopted by many Canadians as a way to show support and loyalty to those serving with the military.
