Military families to hold first Red Friday Walk

Residents of Stephenville and surrounding areas are invited to show their support for Canadian troops by participating in the area's first Red Friday Memorial Day Walk.

Hosted by the Military Family Services Outreach program, the event takes place on June 4.

"Join military family and friends in demonstrating the gratitude we all share for those who risk their lives to protect our sovereignty and fight for the freedom we all hold so dear," said Julie Power, mother of a deployed member of the Canadian Forces.

Registration takes place at the Stephenville Mall parking lot at 6 p.m. Donations will be accepted and in return, donors will receive a balloon and a yellow ribbon.

"Donations received will be in aid of our programs for deployed members and their families," said Ms. Power. " Remember to wear something red and unite in one common cause - supporting our troops."

The walk will start at the Stephenville Mall parking lot, continue down Main St. to Boland Dr., down Prince Rupert Dr. to Queen St. and back to the mall parking lot. Following the walk, refreshments will be served at the Stephenville Armouries.

"We are encouraging all family members and friends of our deployed military personnel, local politicians, businesses, schools, church groups etc. to show their support and help make this event a success," said Ms. Power.
