Western Health has announced there will be a gradual introduction of elective surgeries at Western Memorial Regional Hospital beginning March 26. The health authority has started contacting patients with appointments for their rescheduled surgeries.
Elective surgeries had been put on hold for three days as Western Health had a surge in the number of patients requiring acute care, in addition to a number of staff who were off due to sickness.
Surgeries that were deemed urgent continued at the facility throughout the week.
Western Health's visitation ban remains in effect at Western Memorial Regional Hospital and is being strictly enforced. Limited exceptions for visitation may be made on a case-by-case basis. Please contact the nursing unit directly before coming to the hospital.
Anyone who has had vomiting and diarrhea or been in close contact with others who have these symptoms within a 48 hour time frame are asked to not visit any of Western Health's facilities. Individuals with these symptoms should rest at home, drink fluids, practice proper hand washing with hot water and soap, and contact their physician if the symptoms persist.
