Western Health announced on Tuesday temporary visitation restrictions have been lifted at Sir Thomas Roddick Hospital.

Visitation restrictions were put in place last month when the facility experienced an outbreak of Norwalk, a stomach flu-like illness which may include vomiting and diarrhea.

Visitation Bans continue at LeGrow Health Centre in Port aux Basques and will be enhanced at Western Memorial Regional Hospital in Corner Brook. Patients who are coming to Western Memorial Regional Hospital for medical appointments or to be seen in the emergency department are asked to enter the hospital through the outpatients entrance.

After you are finished your appointment we request you leave the hospital do not go up on the floors to visit. All other people are asked to enter the hospital through the main entrance. There are times when you may not be permitted to enter the hospital. Limited exceptions for visitation may be made on a case-by-case basis. Please contact the nursing unit directly before coming to the hospital for instructions on how to proceed. Children under 14 years of age should not visit within the hospital during this ban.

Most of Western Memorial Regional Hospital's Volunteer programs will continue to be suspended on a temporary basis during this visitation ban. Please contact Residential Services Department of Western Health for more information.

People who have any influenza like symptoms including vomiting, nausea, diarrhea, cough, fever, runny nose, and headache are asked to refrain from visiting any of Western Health's facilities. Also if people have family members or close contact with other people who have these symptoms, they are asked to not come into Western Health facilities.

To prevent the spread of infection in any institution in the Western Health region, the health authority asks the public to follow these steps: wash/Sanitize your hands when you enter or leave any of Western Health's facilities; there may be times when you are asked to follow special precautions or instructions where you visit i.e. wearing gloves, gowns, masks or washing hands.
