Western Health announced today that restrictions are in place at Western Memorial Regional Hospital and Corner Brook Interfaith Home. A visitation ban is in place due to a confirmed outbreak of Norwalk Virus, a stomach flu-like illness which may include vomiting and diarrhea.
The health authority says exceptions for visitation may be made on a case-by-case basis for immediate family members of the terminally ill. Please contact the home directly for instructions on how to proceed.
People who have had vomiting and diarrhea or other flu like symptoms are asked to refrain from visiting any of Western Health's facilities. Individuals with any of these symptoms should rest at home, drink fluids, practice proper hand washing with hot water and soap, and if the symptoms persist contact their physician.
To prevent the spread of infection in any institution in the Western Health region, they ask the public to follow these simple steps: wash/ sanitize your hands when you enter or leave any of Western Health's facilities; and there may be times when you are asked to follow special precautions or instructions where you visit i.e. wearing gloves, gowns, masks or washing hands.
