H1N1 high-risk vaccinations moved up

H1N1 vaccinations for high-risk groups originally scheduled for Nov. 5 will now take place on Nov. 1 at West Coast Training Centre in Stephenville from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m.

High-risk groups include:

Individuals under 65 with chronic health conditions;

Individuals living in remote and isolated settings or communities;

Children six months to five years of age including kindergarten students;

Health care workers involved in pandemic response or the delivery of essential care services;

Pregnant women; and household contacts and caregivers of persons at high risk who cannot be immunized or may not respond to vaccines and populations otherwise identified as high risk.

Those who do not fall under one of the high risk categories listed above are requested to wait until later in the vaccination schedule to receive their vaccine.

Mass immunization for the general population will commence on Nov. 16 and a detailed schedule for Western Health will follow.

As part of the mass immunization registration process, persons are required to have their MCP Card with them at the time of registration. People are asked to wear short sleeves or easy roll up sleeves.

The Georgian will post further details on immunization clinics as they become available from Western Health.
